The Yorkshire Three Peaks is a 24 mile or 38km walking challenge in the Yorkshire Dales National Park that summits the peaks of Pen-y-Ghent, Whernside and Ingleborogh.
The challenge is to complete the 1,600 meters (5,200 feet) of ascent in under 12 hours, though completing it in any time is a major accomplishment.
To do this challenge it helps to have a good level of fitness and be used to walking or running some long days in the hills/lowlands.

This is a good challenge for someone thinking about or training for our Snowdon 6 or Welsh 3000s challenge as has a lot of distance but not as much elevation .

The Route Overview
1. Start at Horton in Ribblesdale:
The route typically begins in Horton-in-Ribblesdale, often near the Golden Lion Pub.
2. Ascend Pen-y-ghent:The first peak is Pen-y-ghent, which is climbed via a path that includes a steep ascent, a flag-paved section, and some scrambling.
3. Descend and Head towards Ribblehead:
After descending Pen-y-ghent, the route heads towards Ribblehead, passing by the famous Ribblehead Viaduct.
4. Ascend Whernside:
The next challenge is Whernside, the highest of the three peaks, reached by a path that involves crossing the Settle-Carlisle Railway line and navigating some varied terrain.
5. Head towards Ingleborough:
The route then moves from Whernside towards Ingleborough, passing through limestone areas.
6. Ascend Ingleborough:
The final peak, Ingleborough, involves a steep climb to its summit plateau.
7. Descent and Return to Start:
The descent from Ingleborough follows a gravel and flagged path, leading back through fields and ultimately to Horton in Ribblesdale, completing the circuit.
